In 2026, Purnima tithi begins on 27 August (~9:08 AM) and ends on 28 August at 9:48 AM — so the festival is celebrated on Friday, 28 August 2026, with the auspicious rakhi-tying window roughly 5:57 AM to 9:48 AM (Bhadra ends before sunrise, so the morning is clear). Translation for planning: sweets and hampers should reach by the evening of 27 August or early on Rakhi morning.

Why ghewar rules Rakhi in North India

Ask any Greater Noida family what makes Rakhi taste like Rakhi, and the answer is ghewar (also spelt ghevar) — the honeycomb-crisp Rajasthani disc that appears only during Sawan and disappears after Rakhi. Ghewar 101: what you’re actually gifting

The batter is dripped into a ring of hot desi ghee, where each droplet fries into a lattice — layer upon layer — until a golden honeycomb forms. Soaked lightly in sugar syrup, it stays shatter-crisp inside. Malai ghewar is finished with a blanket of fresh rabri, slivered pistas and rose petals; kesar ghewar gets a saffron syrup finish that keeps it lighter and travel-friendlier.

A little behind-the-counter honesty, because it explains why pre-orders matter. On Rakhi morning our kitchen starts before sunrise: ghewar trays come out first (they sell through by noon), the packing table runs non-stop tying ribbon on pre-ordered hampers, and the first pickup queue forms around 8 AM — brothers in kurta-pajamas making a dash before the muhurat. Pre-ordered boxes are packed and labelled first; walk-ins get whatever the counters hold. If your muhurat window is 5:57–9:48 AM, you want to be in the first group.

Rakhi evening: the part everyone forgets to plan

The rakhi is tied by 10 AM — and then the whole family is together till dinner. This is where Greater Noida’s Rakhi actually happens: the evening spread.
